Privacy policy
In short, what signing in to PlateEffect means:
- What we keep Your log: everything you record in PlateEffect, from meals and water to weigh-ins, workouts and settings. Also your email, your devices and your Membership.
- Why To keep your log the same on each of your devices, and to keep two Cloud backup copies so a mistake can be undone.
- Our promise We never sell your data and never use it for ads. No Admin can see your log.
- Deleting it Delete your Account in Settings at any time, and everything leaves our server at once. After a Membership ends we keep your log for twelve months, then delete it, emailing you a month before.
The rest of this policy explains what PlateEffect keeps about you, why, and how to remove it, in full. PlateEffect is provided by Raman ("we").
What we store
- your Account: the email address, Google or Apple sign-in you use, when you agreed to this policy, and when you confirmed you are 18 or older.
- your log: what you record in PlateEffect, such as meals, drinks, weigh-ins, measurements, workouts, targets and settings.
- your devices: the name of each phone or tablet signed in to your Account (for example "iPhone 15") and when it was last used, up to three at a time.
- your Membership: when it started and ends, whether it renews, and whether it came from the App Store, Google Play or a Redeem code. Payment itself is handled by Apple or Google; we never see your card.
Why we store it
We keep your log on our server for two things only: Sync, so the same log appears on each of your devices, and Cloud backup, two copies of your log (the newest and one at least a week older) so a mistake that reached every device can still be undone.
Your log is encrypted while stored by our hosting provider, Cloudflare. It is not end-to-end encrypted: our server can read it in order to sync it.
Health information
Your weight, measurements, meals and workouts can say something about your health. We keep them only because you choose to record them, and use them only to show them back to you, Sync them and back them up. We never share them with anyone for any other purpose. You can delete any of it in the app, or delete everything with your Account.
What we promise
- We never sell your data, to anyone.
- Your data is never used for advertising. PlateEffect has no ads and no advertising trackers.
- No Admin can see your log. The tools we use to help with support show your Account, Membership and devices, never what you logged.
Who else handles your data
We use a few services to run PlateEffect. Each handles only what it needs to do its job for us:
- Cloudflare runs our server, stores your Account, log and Cloud backups, and sends our emails, such as your sign-in codes.
- Apple and Google sign you in, if you choose Sign in with Apple or Google, and take payment for a Membership through the App Store or Google Play, under their own privacy policies.
- RevenueCat receives the store's record of your purchase, with your Account's random id, so we know whether your Membership is current. It never receives your log.
- Google Workspace holds our support mailbox, so it keeps what you write to us.
Where your data is stored
These services run servers in many countries, so your data may be stored or handled outside India, including in the United States and the European Union. Wherever it is, it is protected as this policy describes.
Suggestions and correction reports
When you suggest a Food or an exercise, or report that a Food's numbers look wrong, what you send is stored with a random install id so we can limit how often it is sent. That id is never linked to your Account.
Age
You confirm that you are 18 or older when you first sign in. If we learn that an Account belongs to someone younger, we delete it.
How long we keep it
While you are a Member, we keep your log for as long as your Account exists. We keep it for twelve months after your Membership ends, so you find everything if you come back. We email you a month before we delete it, and then delete your log and its Cloud backups. Records of payments are kept longer where tax law requires, without your email address.
How to delete everything
You can delete your Account at any time. Everything about you leaves our server at once: your Account, your sign-ins, your devices, your log and its Cloud backups.
- In the app: Settings → Account → Delete Account.
- On the web, without the app: /delete, where you sign in and confirm.
Deleting your Account does not cancel a subscription in the App Store or Google Play; cancel that in your store's subscription settings.
You can also make a backup file of your log in the app at any time and keep it yourself.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can also take your log with you at any time as a backup file. Write to us and we will answer within 30 days.
If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom
We handle your data on these grounds:
- To give you what you signed up for: your Account, Sync, Cloud backup and Membership.
- Your explicit consent: for health information, given by choosing to record it. You can withdraw it at any time by deleting what you recorded or your Account.
- The law: records of payments that tax law requires us to keep.
- Our legitimate interest in keeping PlateEffect safe and working, such as limiting how often suggestions can be sent.
Besides the rights above, you can object to how we use your data, or ask us to limit it. If you are unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the data protection authority where you live.
Grievance Officer
For any complaint about how your data is handled, our Grievance Officer is Raman, at support@plateeffect.com. We answer every complaint within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we update the date above and ask you in the app to agree again before the change applies to you.
